An Important Message From La Jolla Village Family Medical Group Regarding COVID-19

This message is a part of our continuing efforts to keep our patients safe and informed throughout this unprecedented public health emergency.

Remember, staying home, calling our office before visiting, and utilizing our telemedicine visit system will allow us to care for your healthcare needs as safely and efficiently as possible. It is only with your help that the spread of COVID-19 can be contained, and we thank you for your continued cooperation.

We’re here for you when you need us

In-office appointments are still available for patients with acute problems, while telemedicine visits are available for all non-acute issues. You can reach us at 858-450-5900, option 0, between the hours of 8:15 AM and 4:00 PM to schedule an appointment and one of our highly trained staffers will help you in determining which type of visit is most appropriate.

If you have an in-office appointment, please wear a mask

If you are scheduled for an in-person appointment, please wear a mask or other type of face covering for your safety and the safety of others. If you don’t have a mask, please call us before actually entering the office and our staff will provide one to you.

Just have a question or concern for your provider?

Our secure patient portal via MyHealthRecord.com remains available and can be used to send a message to your provider or another member of our staff 24/7. You will receive a response at that individual’s earliest opportunity during normal business hours. The response might be via the portal, via a phone call, or in some cases via the telemedicine video system if appropriate.

If you have not yet registered for portal access or have forgotten your password, simply call our main appointment number and a member of our staff will assist you.

A note regarding video and phone visit copays

Most health insurance plans have waived cost sharing for COVID-19 related video and phone visits during the pandemic. However, for non-COVID-19 related telehealth visits, some health plans have not waived patient responsibility. These copay, coinsurance and deductible costs are similar to those for in-person office visits and will be billed to you. If you have selected one of our physicians as your primary care provider (PCP) under a contracted HMO plan, you will have no copays or deductibles for telehealth visits. Please check with your insurance company for details.

What more can you do to stay safe?

The most important precautions you can take to keep yourself and others safe and healthy include sheltering at home as much as possible, washing your hands often, and if you do venture out maintain 6 feet of social distance and wear a mask.

Stay home. Stay safe. Call or send us a secure message via your patient portal if you need care.

Your friends at La Jolla Village Family Medical Group.

To help us identify and treat patients with C19 and lower the rate of spread of the disease ('flattening the curve'), we are asking all our patients to follow these guidelines:
  • If you feel ill and it is an emergency, call 911, describe your symptoms, and be prepared to provide detailed information about any recent travel or contact with someone known to have C19.
  • If you feel ill and it is NOT an emergency, please call our office where you will speak to our C19 specialist-trained nurse who can help guide you toward getting help.  You will be asked whether you have fever, cough, or shortness of breath as well as other health-related questions.
  • Following your 'phone triage' you may be scheduled for a telemedicine visit with one of our physicians who will evaluate your condition and also decide whether or not you should be tested for C19.  (See below for more information on telemedicine.)
  • We are one of the few offices performing C19 testing in our area and if your physician recommends that you be tested, he/she will put through an order to have you scheduled for an office visit.  We are performing all testing in our parking lot just outside the clinic door.  You will be instructed to park in a specifically designated stall and call the office once you have arrived.  You will be instructed to remain in your car during the testing.  Our trained medical assistant will meet you at your car.
  • In some cases, you may be directed to present to the hospital Emergency Department.  Please follow all your physician's instructions carefully.
  • In some cases, you may be directed to stay home and self-quarantine.  Your physician will give you specific instructions regarding how to do this.
  • In some cases, you may be directed to schedule an in-office appointment where you will be seen for acute, non-C19 related problems.  If possible, please go alone to any office visit appointments.  Do not bring children, family members, or friends unless you need them for assistance.  Especially, do not bring anyone who has a fever, cough, or shortness of breath.
